About Xbox Series X
Current lineup: Series X 1TB ($499), Series X 2TB ($599), Series S ($299–349)
Best discounts: $50–100 off during Prime Day and Black Friday
Game Pass bundles: Xbox All Access — $25/month for console + Game Pass
Series X vs Series S: The two consoles play the same games, so the decision is about your TV and storage needs. The Series X has a 4K Blu-ray drive and is built for 4K TVs, which also means you can buy cheaper physical discs and pre-owned games. The Series S is digital-only, targets 1440p, and has a smaller SSD, but it costs around $200 less — a sensible pick for a secondary room or a budget setup paired with Game Pass. If you buy a lot of games at retail, the disc drive on the Series X often pays for itself over time.
Game Pass value: Much of the Xbox value story is the subscription rather than the hardware. Game Pass Ultimate bundles a large rotating library plus day-one first-party releases, which can offset the upfront console price if you would otherwise buy several games a year. Weigh that against the PS5, which leans on exclusives, or the Nintendo Switch 2 if portability and first-party Nintendo titles matter more to you.
